Minutes of the JDCMG Meeting

May 5, 2004, UCLA

The meeting started with introductions. All of the campuses and OP were represented, with the exception of UC Santa Cruz, who were not able to attend. Our first task was to discuss/finalize our mission statement. The following is the group’s mission:

  • A Facility to exchange information and best practices between the various UC campuses.
  • A forum to leverage the technical expertise and experience of JDCMG members.
  • A Negotiation tool with vendors.
  • A Liaison to the Information Technology Leadership Council (ITLC).

The group then discussed who would serve as the chairperson and co-chairperson. Shel Waggener of UCB volunteered to act as co-chair. Charlotte Klock of UCSD volunteered to be the Chairperson for the first term. A term will last one year.

Frequency of the meetings was next discussed. The group decided that 4 conference call meetings and 2 “face to face” meetings a year should be sufficient initially. The 2 face to face meetings will be held in March and in October. We’ll rotate between north and south campuses.

Each member then presented how they are organized, and how their data center was configured. These presentations initiated a lot of dialogue between the members. Shel Waggener kept a list of the major topics and issues that were being discussed within the group. The following is that list. The group plans to work on these in future meetings.
